The work of WWF's Trade and Investment Programme

The areas where WWF is developing solutions have been strategically chosen to act as delivery vehicles for achievement of our goals. They all contribute in different ways to helping to create a sustainable system of global governance that begins to integrate sustainable development into economic decision-making.

The following focal areas have been chosen:

  • Avoiding Green Protectionism
  • Sustainable Investment in Energy Services
  • Voluntary Certification/Ecolabelling
  • Sustainable Subsidies (agricultural and fishing)
  • Principles for Averting or Resolving Disputes: Mainstreaming Sustainability
  • Sustainability Assessments

These examples build on existing areas of work within WWF, but add the economic element into the strategy. The idea is to highlight specific challenges that represent core concerns to the WWF network more broadly.

Together these focal issues point to the need to address a broader set of challenges: agreeing a set of sustainability principles that should underpin the management of a globalised economy, grasping the opportunities for addressing both short-term and long-term concerns, whilst averting or resolving the conflicts that may arise.

Learn more about WWF's proactive agenda, promoting approaches which accommodate both the short-term needs of this generation, and the long-term needs of future generations.
