To promote biodiversity conservation in the Eastern Ghats using Remote Sensing and GIS (2003-2004)
To promote biodoversity conservation in the Eastern Ghats using Remote Sensing and GIS – This project aims at initiating a long term multi pronged conservation programme for the Eastern ghats of India, a region as important as the Western Ghats, but neglected so far due to the greater attention of agencies on “hotspots”. The project is a precursor to a long term biodiversity conservation initiative through community education and participation, capacity building, promoting sustainable practices, and the identification of priority areas for forest protection in the Eastern Ghats region.
Image processing work for the Kanha-Achanakmar Landscape Corridor (2003-2004)
Baseline maps of Kanha Achanakmar-Corridor, Madhya Pradesh – These maps are being developed to map the existing vegetation pattern of the Tiger Reserve with a focus on forest community, using satellite imageries and GIS. The baseline maps (1:50,000 scale) will show details of topography, vegetation type, drainage and water bodies, major roads, village locations in and around the reserve (5km radius) infrastructure etc for management purpose.
