WWF-India and Intel Celebrate World Earth Day

WWF-India and Intel Technology Pvt. Ltd. jointly celebrated Earth Day 2007 at the WWF-India Secretariat in New Delhi. The celebrations were marked with a prize distribution ceremony as part of the National Essay Writing Competition to celebrate this significant event. The theme for the celebrations this year was “Water”.

900 students from six schools participated in this competition. The topics for the essays were Water is precious; how much do we need?’ for students of Std IV to VI and Do you think that the next world war will be on water?” for students of Std VII to IX.

The chief guests on the occasion were Mr. Frank Jones, President, Intel-India and Mr. Ravi Singh, Secretary General and CEO, WWF-India. Also present on the occasion were Nature club members from different schools of Delhi representatives from Intel and WWF staff members.

The first prize winners received laptops while the second prize winners received I-pods, courtesy HCL. National level consolation prizes and state level Prizes and certificates for students from New Delhi were also given away on the occasion.

Mr. Frank Jones spoke about the eco-friendly initiatives of Intel and their commitment to saving the environment. Appreciating the understanding and interest shown by the winners, he proposed that schools take up live projects for saving water. The best proposal would receive a seed grant for Intel for its implementation.

Mr. Ravi Singh spoke to students about the project initiatives of WWF in conserving biodiversity and appreciated the performance of students, especially the girls.

The function ended with a mellifluous rendition of the song, titled “God still loves us” by the student choir of Faith Academy.
