WWF-India has been working with 5 Mountain Division, Tenga of India Army for the conservation of wetlands, establishment of Rhododendron Nursery and restoration of degraded sites since 2006. Considering strong commitment and common interest of both WWF-India and Indian Army towards conservation of forest and wildlife a need has been felt to develop a proper action plan to take forward the joint initiatives taken so far in more organized and planned manner for better and sustained impact in the field.
On 5th September 2007, two year Joint Action Plan was signed by WWF-India and 5 Mountain Division, Tenga to provide clear direction to both to work jointly for the conservation of rich biodiversity of Western Arunachal Landscape. In the JAP main area of joint initiatives that were identified are – Conservation of High Altitude Wetlands, Restoration of Degraded areas, Technical and logistic support to WWF-India by Indian Army for the implementation of Community Conserved Area Project and Survey and Documentation of rare, threatened and endangered flora and fauna of the area.
