You can help

Key Contact

Despite being the earth's oldest living vertebrate animal, marine turtle is faced with multiple challenges threatening their very survival. To help the marine turtles one need not be a scientist or a conservationist, YOU as an individual can help too!

Never buy turtle products: eggs, meat or ornaments/curios made of turtle shell. If you see marine turtle products on sale inform the authorities. (Chief Wildlife Warden’s Office in your state or the DFO)

Tell your friends and relatives never to buy them and tell them about the importance of marine turtles to the marine eco-system.

Warn any potential buyers that they risk fines and even jail if they are caught.

On the Nesting Beaches
Make sure you do not litter the beaches that turtles frequent for nesting, and discourage others from doing so.

If you are in the coastal area, motivate school children, villagers and other residents to join the WWF-India's office for a beach cleaning drive.

If you are aware that a particular beach has turtle nests, do not walk on them and refrain others from doing so. Walking on the nests in the beach compacts the sand making it air tight, leading to nest destruction and also makes it difficult for the hatchlings to surface.

Do not take your dog for a walk on the beach that the turtles have nested on. Dogs have the tendency to dig up the nests causing destruction.

Support conservation projects to protect marine turtles by being a WWF-India volunteer or by donating to the cause.

Write to your State Government urging them to do more for the Conservation of Marine Turtles in India.
