The enigma of Sundarbans tiger

There are few enigmas in the wild that catch one’s attention as much as the tiger in Sundarbans. Every visitor to Sundarbans Tiger Reserve is mesmerised by the panoramas that widen and open up every passing minute and greet one as she or he drifts away from mainland India. And the journey through the seemingly unending maze of water courses clothed by the world’s largest mangrove forests, and there are miles and miles of these, is all but tiring. If at all, this journey refreshes one’s mind and spirit.

WWF-India supports media campaign for India’s wild tigers

WWF-India has partnered with Aircel, one of India's leading telecommunications companies in the launch of 'Save our tigers' media campaign. The campaign was  launched on Saturday, 30 Jan 2010, across the nation simultaneously on TV, on-line, in print as well as on radio featuring India's cricket captain MS Dhoni, ace footballer Bhaichung Bhutia, Tamil movie star Suriya and ‘Stripey’ a tiger cub.

WWF-India strengthens patrolling of Assam’s wilderness during winter

Assam state is home to diverse habitats that harbor a rich variety of wildlife, but the same urgently need enhanced protection. The conservation issues here are being addressed by WWF-India through landscapes approach under the North Bank Landscape (NBL) and Kaziranga-Karbi Anglong Landscape (KKL) programmes, in partnership with the Forest Department, Government of Assam and various NGOs.

New Delhi: Chief Minister of Delhi Smt. Sheila Dikshit and Abhishek Bachchan launched WWF’s Earth Hour 2010 at a press conference organized at World Wide Fund for Nature (WWF) office in New Delhi. . Earth Hour is a WWF initiative where citizens around the globe show their support for action on climate change by turning off lights for one hour. This year the switch off is being observed on March 27, 2010, from 8.30 pm to 9.30 pm.

India’s wildlife law enforcement gets a boost with the launch of TRAFFIC’s latest handbook

New Delhi: As a step forward towards strengthening wildlife enforcement in India, Shri Jairam Ramesh, Hon. Minister of Environment and Forests launched TRAFFIC India’s latest Handbook on Wildlife Law Enforcement in India on 16 February 2010 at the WWF-India Secretariat in New Delhi. The book has been produced with support from WWF-India and is authored by Samir Sinha, Head-TRAFFIC India.
