World Environment Day Celebrations at Valsad Divisional Office

The Valsad Division of WWF-India celebrated World Environment Day 2007 in association with the Forest Department of Valsad. The celebrations were marked by tree plantation and bicycle rally.

The cycle rally was flagged off in the presence of senior Forest Department officials and WWF-India staff members. Young enthusiasts from Nature Clubs participated in the rally. They displayed placards and shouted out slogans about environment protection.

Later Forest Department officials with help from WWF staff members gathered local people from the nearby village to clean up the Tithal beach.

Since last year, Valsad Division has also been actively involved in water conservation by recharging rain water collected from the terraces of residential buildings. About 15 large residential complexes have been covered for this project. This year; the project was re-launched on the occasion of World Environment Day with the distribution of 10,000 handbills through local news papers in Valsad and surrounding villages.
